Chapter Seven
“Mom, come on.” Elexis giggled at her on FaceTime.
“What? Am I too old to have a lover?” she seductively asked.
She rolled her eyes. “One, you’re not too old. Two, you don’t need to tell me every detail.”
“Bruce has been beyond my every dream.”
Even though her mother overshared with her, she was pleased to see her happy. Actually, she couldn’t remember her this happy. It was almost contagious.
“I’m going to be in Concord soon. I’ll be sure to stop by and see you.” Her mother added. “Have you thought about Thanksgiving?”
“You and me in Washington D.C.” Elexis sighed. She didn’t know if she wanted to travel for the holiday.
“It’s going to be fun.”
“I thought you wanted me to come home?”
“This would be more fun. Think it over. I have to get back to work.” She smiled. “I love you.”
“Love you,” Elexis said and hit end.
Elexis went back to work herself. Staring at the list on the computer screen she went over the upcoming book releases deciding which ones were going to be a good fit for the library. She couldn’t believe how many great books were coming out, but she had to narrow it down. The library had a tight budget.
After making a list of twenty new books to purchase, she emailed them to the director. Gathering up her items, she knew her work hours had to be finished, but she began to stroll through the stacks, ending in the romance section. She enjoyed romance books from time-to-time but enjoyed other genres more. Nonetheless, here she stood looking at the jaw-dropping gorgeous men and women who could grace any supermodel magazine.
Picking out a few that caught her interest, she went up to the front desk to check them out. Mrs. Eaves, the head librarian, greeted her with a forced smile.
“Is everything okay, Mrs. Eaves?” Elexis asked with a hushed voice.
Glancing around to see if anyone was around, she answered, “No.”
“What’s wrong?” Elexis’s tone was full of concern. Mrs. Eaves had to be the nicest person in the world. What would trouble her? “Is there anything I can do?”
“Do you know someone who can plan our benefit dinner?”
The benefit dinner was an annual event that brought in a lot of donations for the library. The dinner practically kept the library running.
“Actually,” Elexis leaned in, “I do. My mother knows lots of people who could help. I can ask her.”
Mrs. Eaves’ face lit up like a Christmas tree. “Oh, Elexis, could you? Would you? I’d be ever so grateful.”
“Of course. It’s no trouble at all.” She beamed.
After Mrs. Eaves checked out her books, Elexis headed off to the bus stop. She sent a text to her mother for help.
As the bus arrived, she easily found a seat and when settled, she hit the Twitter app.
